Allotment Shed

The high winds overnight shredded the felt on the allotment roof. The shed was originally erected six years ago when I took over the allotment - it was only a cheap shed - it cost me £160.

Took a trip up to Wickes and spent £5 on a roll of roofing felt. While I was there I also bought a tin of blue wood preserver to cover over the original orange "cedar" but I will have to wait for better weather before giving it a re-coat. It will be interesting to see what the final colour will be. I am hoping for a purple.

I managed to drag Mr C away from the TV for a couple of hours and he very kindly replaced the felt. Probably because he got to use the staple gun.

Digging

Made the most of the time off work over the Christmas/New Year break to catch up on the digging up the allotment.

The soil is heavy clay and usually not easy to dig. But I have devised a system which makes it a bit easier. Firstly I go along the row making cross cuts with my spade approximately the width of the spade and then dig the row. This makes sure that I don't end up with too much soil on the spade.

I also spent some time on line purchasing seeds. I have decided to try and grow parsnips this year - normally I have germination difficulties, but my allotment neighbour has recommended started them off in a greenhouse and then transplanting them. I have also bought some melon seeds - just incase the summer in 2007 is as hot as 2006.

Christmas

The company MD hates Christmas - so naturally we had to decorate the office.

I bought a tree from Woolies for £7.50, used baubles and lights from home and spent £10 in the local "Everything is a Pound" shop for the rest of the decorations.

He was not impressed - tee hee.

32 and counting

The flies in the office hit a peak today. In our office alone we swatted 32, which is an all time record.

The "kills" were sellotaped to a filing cabinet drawer for the record.
